In 1978, the Theatre was sold again and renovated. ![]() On September 29, 1977, the Theatre became a historic landmark. The upstairs theatre was known as the Saenger Orleans. In 1964, the Theatre was sold again and was made into two smaller theatres. There are 150 lights in the ceiling made to look like constellations.ĥ Historic Landmark The Theatre was sold in 1929 for $10 million. The ticket price for the first show, a silent movie and stage play, was 65 cents. The Saenger Theatre opened on February 4, 1927. That was a lot of money in 1927! It had 4,000 seats and it took 3 years to build.
